PINIKPIKAN (KILLING ME SOFTLY)

DEFINITION:
Pinikpikan is prepared by beating a live chicken with a stick prior to cooking. The beating bruises the chicken’s flesh by bringing blood to its surface, which is said to improve the flavour after cooking.[1] The act of beating the chicken, while done in preparation of the dish, violates the Philippine Animal Welfare Act 1998,[5] which includes the following provision:
It shall be unlawful for any person to torture any animal, to neglect to provide adequate care, sustenance or shelter, or maltreat any animal or to subject any dog or horse to dogfights or horsefights, kill or cause or procure to be tortured or deprived of adequate care, sustenance or shelter, or maltreat or use the same in research or experiments not expressly authorized by the Committee on Animal Welfare.[6]
Despite this, pinikpikan is still prepared, both in what some consider a more humane way, involving slitting the neck of the chicken or other fowl, and in the traditional way.
EXAMPLE:
I bought Pinikpikan at the restaurant.

SANGKALAN O TADTARAN (CHOPPING BOARD)

DEFINITION:
A cutting board (or chopping board) is a durable board on which to place material for cutting. The kitchen cutting board is commonly used in preparing food; other types exist for cutting raw materials such as leather or plastic. Kitchen cutting boards are often made of wood or plastic and come in various widths and sizes. There are also cutting boards made of glass, steel, or marble, which are easier to clean than wooden or plastic ones such as nylon or corian, but tend to damage knives due to their hardness. Rough cutting edges—such as serrated knives—abrade and damage a cutting surface more rapidly than do smooth cutting implements.
EXAMPLE:
Put the carrot on a Cutting board and cut the carrot in half lengthwise.
BATALAN (SINK)

They also include a drain to remove used water; this drain may itself include a strainer and/or shut-off device and an overflow-prevention device. Sinks may also have an integrated soap dispenser. Many sinks, especially in kitchens, are installed
adjacent to or inside a counter.
